Faculty members of the Department of English and Comparative Literature (DECL) led a walkout mobilization on Nov. 27, calling for an end to fraternity-related violence, homophobia, bigotry, misogyny, and impunity in University.

Students and faculty members took turns voicing their anger and condemnation, following the leakage of an alleged group chat of some members of the Upsilon Sigma Phi that contained violent conversations bashing women, LGBTQI+, Muslims, and indigenous peoples, among others. All speakers demanded the return of UP as a safe space for everyone, free of violence, machismo, and discrimination.

One hundred speakers were invited from the crowd to speak for 100 minutes, in an apparent play of Upsilon’s 100-year celebration last week, the same week when the alleged conversations were leaked.
